Carter's newest interest is LEARNING. Honestly, we thought that this day would never come. He's always been the artistic, free-thinker, march to the beat of a different drummer type....and we were okay with that. He is still all of those things, but recently, he has such an incredible thirst for knowledge.
Last week he came home and told us that he asked his teacher where the "non-fiction space books" were in the library. What?? Non-Fiction?? Since when does he even know what that means? So, for the last two library times, he has been pointed in the non-fiction direction and has chosen a book about Mercury last week and a dinosaur encyclopedia this week.
Two nights ago, he asked Chad how money was made...coins, that is. So, Chad went online and found a video explaining the coin-making process. Carter sat in front of the computer with his mouth wide open and his eyes as big as saucers...for the entire 10 minutes...I'm pretty sure he might have only blinked once during that time. We could have told him Santa was waiting out front with the Easter Bunny with a power wheels and a trampoline just for him and he would have never heard us.
Chad recently told me that he has been recording a show off of the discovery channel about space and that if I ever need Carter occupied for an hour, turn that show on and watch what happens...apparently the same thing that happened when he watched the coin video.
It's kind of funny sometimes, like a couple of weeks ago when I walked into the living room at 7am and Carter is watching the History channel. When I told him I would change the channel for him (feeling all sorry for him watching that boring stuff) he hides the remote from me and begs to watch it for just a few more minutes. What is wrong with this kid? Well, obviously, I know the answer to that question...there's nothing wrong with him; he just wants to learn. It doesn't matter the topic...he just wants to know. We are so pleased with this new-found thirst for knowledge...we're just keeping our fingers crossed that it will last.
